Orihuela Optimism too Strong for San Fulgencio
On Saturday July 23rd Orihuela Costa Cricket club played San Fulgencio at La Manga. Despite scoring only 92 runs Orihuela put in a spirited bowling performance to bowl out San Fulgencio for just 71 and win the game by 21 runs. San Fulgencio won the toss and elected to field. Several of the Orihuela batsmen got themselves a start but none of them managed to get a substantial score thanks to some tight bowling by the home side.

Orihuela were finally out for 92 in the 26th over with young Ashley Williams mopping up the tail, taking 4 wickets for 11 runs. Her bowling was even more impressive as only 2 runs came from the bat, the rest being wides.

In response San Fulgencio started tentatively and the game was evenly poised at the 10 over lunch interval with the hosts on 23 for 2 after some fine opening bowling by Damon Haymes who finished with figures of 2 for 6 off his 8 overs.

Quick wickets after the lunch break left SFL searching for a good innings from someone, Jasprit Singh (Happy) with superb figures of 4 for 13 off his 8 overs and Vikas Singh with 3 for 11 from his 8 overs. Unfortunately, San Fulgencio were unable to stem the flow, despite a gutsy last wicket partnership of 19 from Jon Algar and Ashley Williams.

Jon Algar was the last to go with the score on 71, being caught and bowled by Mark Copperwheat. This came as a relief to the bowler who had dropped the same batsman a few overs earlier. SFL just missed out on a batting point and Orihuela went home with the spoils courtesy of some great bowling by all of the 7 bowlers that they used.

Orihuela took 16 points from the game whilst SFL collected 5 points. Both teams are in action later this month, Orihuela travelling to Bonalba to confront the Intellectuals and SFL entertain Sporting Alfas 2 at La Manga.
