MOSQUITOES

Hi i am coming to Quesada in three weeks and wondered what the mossies were like in the area ,as my other half is a mos magnet any tips how to keep them at bay would be helpful thanks

Quesada

I had been bitten more than normal this year and not found anything to keep them away so would appreciate any advice too..

This is when Mossies are at there worst, they hatch this time of the year, there are products you can buy but things Ive found work are two things they dislike, one is neat lemon juice and the other is lavender oil. Add 5 drops to a small spray bottle containing water, and use when needed ( dont drink it ,so keep out reach of children. lavender bushes are good to have n your garden also.
and avoid sitting round trees and shrubs that have reasently been watered, they love it there.
Good Luck !

There is a spray in the local Ferreterias that you spray on your windows and terraces and it lasts for up to 8 hours and keeps the mozzies at bay. If you are sitting out in the evenings, try to avoid wearing anything with a perfume in it. We have found if you spray yourself with mozzie/fly spray all over and keep re-applying it, it works (although you may smell like fly spray!). There is aslo a mozzie deterent spray (orange bottle) in Mercadona that is very good. Try not to sit next to stagnant water. It is only the females that bite and they need the water to hatch their eggs in.

I have a little unit I can keep in my pocket or by the bed, which runs on an AA battery, and makes a low hum like a male mosqueto. The females bite you to feed, but if they think a male is around they keep away because until they have fed they are not ready to mate, so you donĀ“t get bitten. Seems to work. You can get them at electrodomesticos.

Hi you have my sympathy
I am severely allergic to mosquito bites and as a result I often end up in hospital or at least at the clinic for steriod injections along with antibiotic shots etc etc.

out of all the remedies I have tried including prescribed meds, avons skin so soft, spray, is the best repellent, the soldiers in afghanistan even use it its works that well. You are going to quesadas at the worst time though, a spanish doctor explained to me that in peak season when so its so hot, no breeze, no air, the mosquitos hang about the stagnent water at the salt lakes and become "dirty" if you like and this is how I react so badly because along with the bite comes infection from the stagnent water (eeeew) anyway my advice is make sure you are protected all day and night, dont take any chances. Use plug ins indoors constantly, take antihistamene the second you get bit. I used a sucker type syringe last year from boots to get the poison out of the bites and it worked really well but did leave bad marks/.bruising.

Taking vitamin b complex before you go and during your holiday also helps but again its question of consistency whatever you use, do use it day and night and keep topping up

happy holiday

Hi, I have used the sonic repellents for years now & find them really good, the ferreterias normally have them & I think Carrefour does as well.(Look like a small black cigar shape) I've tried one off the market (smaller and rounder shape) and it fell to pieces more or less straight away so steer clear of them! I also use mosquito patches (they're very small & clear) for my ankles and wrists & find these really effective as well, -from farmacias

Benijofar Life Website

It seems to me that the Forum is becoming more like an advertising page, as is the My Spanish Life section. Surely advertisers should be using the Services Section to advertise? The way the My Spanish Life section seems to be going, you may as well do away with the rest of the website and just have that area!

I agree with your comments - but would say as well that it is up to the people using this site to use the Forum for their discussions - come on people!!!!

Commented Bev Manson in Benijofar 2011-07-06 08:26:41 UTC

I agree too and think that the administrators should remove advertising from the forum - I can see that businesses would want to advertise one off events / sales but when you constantly see the same businesses advertising day in/day out it does get annoying. Businesses should use the other advertising options on the site.

Villa Cleans / Keyholding Services

Can anyone give me an indication of what they pay for changeover cleans / keyholding services? We have a 3 bed semi villa which we are considering renting out for holiday lets and are trying to get an idea of the costs involved.

I pay around 70 to 90 per changeover depending on how many people are in.

Commented Chris Randall in Benijofar 2011-07-06 16:29:33 UTC

We pay 75 euros per changeover which includes a full clean and washing of bedlinen / towels.

Dont forget that the main parade for the Benijofar Fiestas takes place on Saturday 23rd July. Get your table booked at one of the bars on the main street for the best view!!

Cant wait for this years fiestas - love the Benjofar ones as I find them a bit less commercialised than the others....
